Steven A. Griess (1950 - 2011)

On August 21, 2011, we lost our good friend, mentor, and business partner, Steven A. Griess.

Steve had been with Speedie & Associates since it’s formation in mid-1980, except for a brief 3-year hiatus in the mid-90’s.   Prior to that, he had been employed by Halpert & Associates, the firm that had originally opened the Phoenix branch of what subsequently became Speedie & Associates.  As can be imagined, due to the length of this tenure, in addition to  facing the many challenges in forming and growing a successful engineering business together, strong bonds were formed between Steve, the Speedies, his partners, and the many employees of the firm.  We all miss him very deeply.

While Steve’s most recent area of official responsibility related to the management of our Environmental Services Department, he filled many other positions and roles during his long tenure with the firm, Steve was very much an essential part of the firm’s growth and success, and will always be an integral part of it’s legacy.

Steve was born on February 6, 1950 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Alfred and Martha Schaeffer Griess. He graduated from East High School in Cheyenne, Wyoming and attended the University of Wyoming, where he received a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to pursue a master’s degree at Arizona State University. Steven spent most of his career with Speedie & Associates in Phoenix, Arizona, where he was Vice President and manager of the Environmental Services division.

Steve loved being with his family and anywhere in the mountains, hiking, camping and fishing. His gentle spirit, sincere demeanor, and dry humor earned him the respect and love of friends and colleagues alike. Steven is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Brian and his wife Rachel; daughter, Kristin and her husband Jeremy; brothers, Wayne, Dennis, Mark, William and Leslie Griess; sister, Karen Rader and 2 precious little granddaughters, Sophia and Ashlin.
